Used as a multi-purpose desiccant. Serves as a dehydrating agent in the production of alcohols, esters, ethers, and acrylic resins. Calcium chloride aqueous solution is an important refrigerant for freezers and ice making, and an excellent antifreeze for construction. Used as a fog dispersant in ports and a dust suppressant on roads, as well as a fabric fire retardant. Functions as a protective agent and refining agent in aluminum and magnesium metallurgy. Acts as a precipitating agent in the production of lake pigments. Used for deinking in waste paper processing.
